Bangalore Blasts case: Police team leaves for Maharashtra The Times of India News Service HUBLI: The police are looking for more details in Latur and Solapur in Maharashtra to bring together the larger conspiracy picture of the bombings of the churches in Hubli, Vasco-da-Gama (Goa) and Wadi (Gulbarga). Corps of Detectives Police Superintendent G.R. Hiremath, along with his team of investigators, left for Maharashtra in the early hours of Thursday. The police arrested the alleged kingpin, Basheerahmed Abdulkhader Kaware alias “Bhakta Bhargava” of Kokatnur village of Athani taluka of Belgaum district. The arrest was made when the CoD swooped down on him after receiving a tipoff that he was holed up in his native village. The accused was produced before the JMFC II court magistrate, Vipula Poojari, who remanded him to CoD custody, till August 14. With the arrest of Bhakta Bhargava' the number of conspirators in the bombing case falling into the police dragnet has risen to seven. Basheer Ahmed was reportedly associated with the now "controversial" Deendar Channabasaveshwara Anjuman Siddqui cult, for the past ten years and according to the CoD sources was the mastermind behind the blast in three churches. Police said that Basheerahmed was in attendance at all the sessions’ pertaining to the conspiracy to bomb a series of churches in South India and Goa. His father Haji Abdulkhader was also a staunch member of the Deendar Anjuman and was actively involved in propagating the ideology of the cult. Basheer was honoured with the title “Bhakta Bhargava” by an elderly member of the sect. Police said that the Tata Sumo which was used in executing the bombing of the churches was provided to Kalkujum, the chief of the Hyderabad unit of the Deendar Anjuman. The vehicle was purchased by Basheerahmed from a Muslim trader in Hubli. The trader who had purchased the vehicle on hire purchase basis with loan from Malaprabha Grameena Bank had sold it to Basheer for Rs 40,000. Basheer had promised to clear the bank loan. After paying two instalments to the bank, Basheer had defaulted in payment. The CoD police has so far arrested Rishi Basavaraj Hiremath, Sayed Muniruddin Mullah both of Hubli, Jafar Mohammed Barhuddin of Hyderabad, Meersab Chamansab Koujalgi of Batakurki village in Ramdurg taluk of Belgaum district, Mohammed Sarfuddin Shaikh Mehmood and Mohammed Aqeel. Jafar Mohammed Barhuddin is said to be directly involved in the bombing of St John’s Lutheran church in Hubli. Meersab Chamansab Koujalgi and Mohammed Sarfuddin Shaikh Mehmood had allegedly travelled by bus with the bombs from Hubli to Vasco-da-Gama via Batakurki. Dy SP, G. R. Hiremath told The Times of India that the preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were planning to blast major bridges in the state after completion of the “church list”.
